The Winery Facilities Technician plays a key role in maintaining the company’s facilities and grounds so that they are aesthetically pleasing, functional, and safe.  Reporting to the Owners and Head Winemaker, this dynamic role manages various tasks in the areas of facilities and grounds maintenance, winemaking, transportation and logistical operations.

Individuals who will be most successful in this role possess a variety of handyman, landscaping and maintenance skills, with the ability to organize assigned work tasks and to clearly communicate regarding task priority levels and progress/completion status. The Winery Facilities Technician is expected to take initiative and ownership in all areas of their work and to perform work with a sense of pride. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and functionality of our properties and grounds. This includes our main production facility in South Napa, two local tasting rooms (located in Napa and Calistoga) and a10-acre estate vineyard property in Napa.
  2. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on winery equipment and buildings.
  3. Complete building and equipment repair as needed, and coordinate with vendors when specialized service is required.
  4. Assist ownership with property improvement projects, including light construction, demolition, and general handyman work.
  5. Perform general landscape maintenance tasks and site clean-up activities, such as debris removal, sweeping, and power washing, to maintain cleanliness standards.
  6. Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in all wine production areas.
  7. Assist the winemaking team with wine production and cellar duties, to include:
    1. Forklift operation
    2. Bottling preparation and assistance
    3. General cellar work (cleaning, sanitation, barrel work, etc.)
    4. Harvest support (fruit processing, fermentation monitoring, punch downs, etc.)
    5. Filtration and wine movement tasks
    6. Transportation of grapes, wine, and equipment
    7. Ad-hoc labeling, waxing, and packaging projects
  8. Safely load and operate company vehicles and assist in the movement of materials and equipment as required.
  9. Provide logistic support for events and activities off-site, including set-up, breakdown, and transportation of materials and equipment.
  10. Follow all safety procedures, and promptly report any unsafe conditions identified to management.
  11.  Document, prioritize and update the status of assigned work orders and projects.
  12. Communicate interdepartmentally, checking in with Owners and Head Winemaker for daily repairs or continuous improvement projects.
  13.  Demonstrate strong attention to detail throughout all aspects of work.
  14.  Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
  • Prior maintenance/handyman experience.
  • A strong interest in wine production.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under Company’s policies. This position will undergo a motor vehicle check (MVR) to confirm a history of safe and responsible driving.
  • Strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to pitch in wherever needed.
  • Able to read, understand and follow work and safety-based SOPs.
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals and publications.
  • Ability and willingness to follow all safety protocols (lock-out-tag-out, personal protective equipment, etc.).
  • Self-starter who can take ownership of projects and follow through independently.
  • Positive attitude and team player.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and overtime, particularly during harvest period or special events.
  • Previous cellar and/or winemaking experience is preferred.
  • Experience driving a forklift is preferred.
  • Prior experience, education or specialized training in plumbing, electrical, carpentry or mechanical repair is a bonus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Position will be exposed to both indoor and outdoor environments with varying noise levels and varying conditions (which may include inclement seasonal weather such as summer heat or cold weather/rain).
  • Must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work standing up for long periods of time and on concrete surfaces.
  • Must be able to perform tasks requiring bending, sitting, stooping or twisting.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder on a regular basis.
  • May be required to work on building rooftops and crawl through tight spaces (e.g., attics or basements).

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS
  • The compensation range for this position is $23-$25 per hour.

  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
